With over two decades of experience as a dancer, choreographer, instructor, Steven has developed a reputation for combining strong technical precision with authentic cultural artistry. Rooted in his Costa Rican, Puerto Rican, and Spaniard heritage, his earliest influences came from music and rhythm at home, his Puerto Rican father a percussionist whose passion for sound ignited Steven’s own appreciation for movement. By eight, Steven began formal training in folkloric dance, and by twelve, he advanced into Latin ballroom under Juliette Tibodeaux at Fred Astaire Dance Studios, gaining a foundation in Salsa, Rumba, ChaChaCha, Bachata, and Latin Hustle.
Steven’s artistry expanded through training with Yohanna Escamilla in Salsa Caleña, Cumbia, Flamenco, and Pasodoble, and was later shaped by his work with the renowned Huracan Dance Company. Under the mentorship of World ChaChaCha Champions Jeff Taveras and Julie Aponte, he refined his interpretation of Salsa On2, enhancing his performance quality, musicality, and choreographic vision. In addition, Steven has traveled to Puerto Rico and Costa Rica, studying folkloric traditions such as Bomba and participating in local training to deepen his connection to authentic cultural forms.
Today, Steven continues his professional development through workshops and masterclasses with internationally recognized choreographers, ensuring that LEDC remains at the forefront of dance education. His leadership reflects both a respect for cultural heritage and a commitment to innovation, offering dancers not only training but also empowerment through movement.
